Bathroom Trivia A bathroom is a room that may have different functions depending on the cultural context it is used in. In its literal sense it means 'a room with a bath', but as bathtubs have partly made way for showers and steam showers, the more general sense of 'a room where one bathes' makes more sense. There can be just a shower or just a bathtub or both, sometimes combined and sometimes separate (in which case the bathtub may have a second shower). Usually, it also contains a handbasin or sink and often also a toilet. In the USA, 'bathroom' commonly means 'a room containing a toilet' (in other countries this is usually called 'toilet' or alternatively 'water closet' (or 'WC'), or 'lavatory'). For this interpretation of the word see bathroom (American). If a bathroom facility is attached to a bedroom it is often known as an en-suite or if it's attached to a master bedroom it's known as a master bathroom. A half (1/2) bath contains a toilet and a handbasin (lavatory). A 3/4 bath contains a toilet, a handbasin (lavatory) and a shower. A full bath contains a toilet, a handbasin (lavatory) and a bathtub. |

Design considerations The design of a bathroom must account for the use of both hot and cold water, in significant quantities, for cleaning the human body. Disposal of the water usually leads to a sewer or septic tank. Water may be splashed on the walls and floor and hot humid air may cause condensation on cold surfaces. From a decorating point of view the bathroom presents a challenge. Ceiling, wall and floor materials and coverings should be impervious to water and readily and easily cleaned. The use of ceramic or glass, as well as smooth plastic materials, is common in bathrooms for their ease of cleaning. However, such surfaces are often cold to the touch and so water-resistant bath mats or even bathroom carpets may be used on the floor to make the room more comfortable. Alternatively, the floor may be heated, possibly by startegically placing heater conduits close to the surface. Electrical appliances, such as lights, heaters and heated towel rails generally need to be installed as fixtures, with permanent connections rather than plugs and sockets. This minimises the risk of electric shock. Ground-fault circuit interruptor electrical sockets can reduce the risk of electric shock, and are required for bathroom socket installation by electrical and building codes in the United States and Canada. In some countries, such as the UK, only special sockets suitable for electric shavers are permitted in bathrooms, and are labelled as such. Bathrooms can also be a source of decorative inspiration. One can easily decorate the bathroom by choosing shower curtains or cubicles to match a theme. |

Eclectic Patio Furniture Shows Your Style
Your home's interior is exquisitely decorated in your favorite style; why not treat your exterior with patio furniture and accessories that will be comfortable as well as beautiful. Your backyard becomes more functional by adding gas grills, or furnishing options such as casual hammocks or formal wrought iron. You are limited only by your imagination. The patio furniture does not have to be limited to one style. A backyard looks great if you mix it up with an eclectic flare. You don't have to decide between rigid cedar and a quilted hammock, or a built in gas grill and a fire pit. You can have it all. Do you want your patio to have a casual feeling or one that is more formal? This may depend on the style of home you have. A full log home may not be served well with antique white wicker furniture on the porch or patio. A contrast is good, but the balance isn't quite right. The white wicker seems too light and airy against the heavy logs. An Adirondack style of furniture might strike a better balance for the home. Is a specific material of importance to you such as teak, rattan, or wrought iron? Do you prefer patio cushions, or the natural look of wood as with Adirondack chairs? A gas grill or outdoor fireplace can be a focal point creating an outdoor kitchen. If relaxation is the most important to you, a hammock or patio swing would be a nice choice. Do you like to entertain outdoors? There is a wide variety of outdoor furniture that creates the perfect party atmosphere. Do you enjoy cooking on a gas grill and showing off your favorite recipes to your friends and family? How about a relaxing lunch shaded from the sun under a decorative patio umbrella while the kids are napping in a rope hammock? You can create the look and feel you want by just a while. Make sure they are weather resistant in one of the newer fabrics that are on the market today. Sunbrella? is a wonderful fabric that fights mold and mildew from the elements. It comes in nice colors and fun stripes. You might like a webbed design that is also very comfortable, just a different look from the cushions. If I am sitting on a hard cut log bench or cold wrought iron, I definitely need a cushion for comfort. I also like to mix up the furniture with some bar height chairs and bistro table. You create some interest if all of the furniture is not the same height. If you have a pool, that may also influence your style of outdoor furniture. You may want a material such as PVC that is easy to dry off if it gets wet. Choosing the right furniture for your patio is an important decision. Just like the interior, your outdoor furnishings are also an investment. Unless you buy an inexpensive plastic webbed chair from a discount store, you will want to use your furniture for many seasons. Look at magazines and follow your own personal style. You will then be able to make a buying decision that creates the perfect outdoor living room that fits the style of home and your personality.
